Red Line at the Horizon looks like a landscape seen at speed. Bands of warm brown, ochre and blurred amber fill the frame, with a cool stripe of teal-blue running across the middle and, right through it, a vivid red line that pulls the eye from edge to edge. In his Abstractions in Nature series, Tim Burns looks for the abstract images that light, motion, glass and water create on their own. He does not set up these pictures; he is ready when they appear. Here, horizontal movement turns the world into pure color fields and lines, closer to an abstract painting than to a traditional photograph. The image has energy and a strong sense of direction, yet its earthy palette keeps it grounded and warm. Behind acrylic glass the red stripe seems to glow. It is a confident piece for a modern office, a loft or a long wall above a sofa, where its horizontal rhythm echoes the room and invites the eye to travel.
