Fire and Bruise at the Edge of Day is a sunset painted entirely by the sky. Coral and rose clouds drift across the upper frame, deepening into dusky plum and bruised violet, while a pale, cool band of blue-grey opens in the middle. At the bottom, a line of molten gold glows along the horizon. This is one of Tim Burns' Rothko Seascapes, a series in which sun, sea and sky dissolve into soft bands of color. Like the paintings that inspired the name, the image is built from stacked fields of color whose edges blur and breathe. Yet nothing is invented: Tim works on the coast, waiting for the light and trusting the moment it arrives. The title says it well: fire and bruise, heat and tenderness meeting at the end of the day. Printed behind acrylic glass, the colors gain depth and seem to glow from within. It is a vertical work that gives a hallway, stairwell or narrow wall a striking, emotional focal point.
